Sleeping ones

I had a dream my family and I were running across a parking lot, toward a helipad. We were informed that we would be taken away to a fortified city with a population of 10,000. We were guaranteed that COVID-19 could not enter the city, and we believed this. The city was very famous: at that point, international news outlets were investigating it, because its location was yet unknown.

So we ran across the parking lot to be rescued and taken to the city. The cars in the parking lot were filled with sleeping children. We had to monitor if any children had awoke: we were instructed to take them with us, and leave the sleeping ones behind. We were told that the children who slept on would be fine.

A toddler woke up, and I pulled him out of the car so he wouldn't wake the others. His face was swollen, and his pupils dilated, and he seemed to have sustained brain damage. I tried shaking him and patting him vigorously, but he was gone.

We were taken to the city in an exclusive helipad. The city center was a massive neon supermarket with rigid shopping rules. We were each attached to a shopping cart, which hovered a foot above the floor. The products were all floating at eye level, like treats in a video game. We were only allowed to purchase the foods that we passed, like Pac-man.

The mayor of the city was an old woman with orange hair, who lived in a tent by the "riverbank" in the city, which was really just the lip of the city's moat. People warned me that she was "delusional". I saw her being tased and tranquilized by the police. I worried about how long I'd have to spend in the city.
