the Great Pandemic

I was in an old apartment building that had been evacuated to keep the tenants safe. Although the people had left recently it looked like it had been abandoned for many years.

My job was to go through and make sure the building was secure. There was a man in his 60s who I worked with. I was in a room a few floors up looking out of this large broken window at another building that looked like an old brick hospital but had also been apartments. It had trees and plants growing through the building and poking out of the roof and broken windows. Moss had grown all over the brick. It had clearly been abandoned for decades. I was telling the man i worked with that my mother had lived there during the Great Pandemic but had luckily moved out of the building right before things got really bad. I was thinking about how lucky I was that I still had my mother with me.

Suddenly I wasn't looking out of a window but the image of the abandoned building my mother had lived in was being protected on the wall and a group of people were studying it and discussing what led to the Great Pandemic and the terrible things that happened in that building.
