Snakes

Humans had somehow passed on coronavirus to snakes, but when snakes got the virus it caused them to become venomous (even if they were originally just garter snakes or rat snakes). It also caused them to be aggressive and they would seek out any mammal that had metal in its body. This includes horses that had horseshoes, dogs and cats that had been microchipped, and humans that had surgical pins from broken bones, hip or knee replacements, or even things like dental implants. Since this applied to myself and my pets, I was always on the lookout for snakes whenever I went outside. I had to thoroughly check the back yard to make sure it was safe (while wearing my snow boots in case I encountered any snakes) before I could let the dog out to potty.
